What can we say about Jeri Morris that most everyone does not already know…..She is a hard worker and a pleasure to know.

She came to The Learning Pad with a healthcare background, she was a EMT.

She quickly acclimated to the class and was putting out some of the highest grade point averages the school has seen. Soon she was assisting other students within the class in their learning as well. She is a born leader and will go far in this field.

She received an externship rather quickly after her classroom studies were completed, and shortly thereafter found employment and then passed her National Medical Assistant Certification exam.

What a great group of students who participated in the May Phlebotomy Technician Program. We had a wide variety of backgrounds within the class. Some students were nursing students wanting to quickly work within the health field while they were going to school.

Others had backgrounds in other service industries such as the food industry and retail, and were taking this class to expand their resume and employment opportunities.

A few in this class after graduation went on to volunteer at the Central Texas Blood and Tissue Center to expand their resume for employment. And other were able to get on at some of the various laboratories in town such as CPL.

We wish everyone good luck in their endeavors!

Graduation date: April 15th, 2011

Each student worked very hard in studying and learning via hands on labs and classroom work. Each one was able to build from scratch a Personal Computer. They were able to install new operating systems, and they were able to run diagnostics. Alot of fun was also had in being able to perform these tasks in our computer build laboratory. After that they learned how to network these computers together and administrate that network.

Their instructor Mr. Coffey, as well as the rest of our staff wish them well in their Technology endeavors.

Trihn Ly recently graduated our Medical Assistant Program, and was sponsored by the TAA program with the Rural Workforce. We, as well as her TAA counselor Elva Jaqez, are very proud of all her accomplishments. Ms. Ly graduated with a near perfect attendance and one of the highest GPA’s in our schools history.

Ms. Ly was even successful in securing her own externship at the end of her classroom work by walking into the offices of the Northwest Diagnostic Clinic and offering her resume.

Northwest Diagnostic Clinic took her on for her externship. They were so impressed with her ethics and knowledge, that at first they were not looking to hire anyone, but did not want to let her go. They were able to find the funds to extend an offer of full time employment with them to Ms. Ly and she accepted. Her last day of externship was completed two weeks ago, and her first day on the job as an employee started June 20th.

We wish Ms. Trihn Ly much success in her new career!

What a constructive class we had in March for our Electrocardiogram Technician Program. The class was small, only two students, which was very conductive to learning as they had their instructor’s (Christopher Metcalfe) undivided attention.

They were able to learn the application and science behind ECG’s, but also was able to do some great hands on practice with adults as well as children. Both students graduated with high GPA’s, and one of them also added a Phlebotomy Technician class and certification to her resume with The Learning Pad. We look forward to seeing each student working in a laboratory real soon.

The same time we were graduating a ECG Technician Program, across the hall we were also completing a Phlebotomy Technician Program. In this particular class, we had students that came as far as Houston to participate! What dedication to advancing their healthcare career! These students again did very well. We really had fun with all the hands on opportunities to perfect their technique as you can see in the photos. Also, each student was able to take advantage of The Learning Pad’s resume writing and interviewing workshop to not only polish up their resume, but to be better prepared in the types of questions are asked in an interview. They each did very well in that area. We look forward to hearing from our students who are in Houston on how they are doing!

We had five graduates in our April Phlebotomy Technician Program. This size of class was great, as it gave each student more time to be able to perform their practice sticks and perfect their techniques. Also a few in this class was able to volunteer at the Blood and Tissue center of Central Texas, thus expanding their exposure to the field. Great job to all in class with their sticks!

Charmia Medearis recently graduated our Medical Assistant Program, and was sponsored by DARS (Dept. of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services). During her last month in our program, her externship was at Dr. Poonwala – Family Practice. That practice was so impressed with her drive and knowledge, they extended employment to her and she accepted!

Ms. Medearis graduated with an extremely high GPA, and was constantly sought out by newer students for assistance in the class. Her instructor, Christopher Metcalfe was impressed daily with her work, study ethics, and willingness to help.

Mr. Metcalfe, the rest of the staff of The Learning Pad, as well as her DARS counselor, Ms. Debra Ditta, are very proud of Ms. Medearis’s accomplishments and now, employment.

We wish Ms. Charmia Medearis much success in her new career!

We had a great group in February that took the Phlebotomy Technician Program. A few already were working at a diet and fitness clinic and were adding to their skill sets, so they could draw blood at their current company to help individuals construct proper eating plans according to what was found in their blood lab workup. Again, their instructor John Maya did a great job in getting them up and running on their background knowledge such as HIPPA and knowing their order of draw according to tube colors. Great job guys!

What a great group Mr. Maya had the pleasure of teaching in January. He had a variety of backgrounds in class, beginners and some who had experience. We greatly enjoyed hosting some individuals who works for Williamson County and are getting certified to be able to draw blood for DUI’s at the county jail. We wish all good luck in their endeavors!!
